Recently, I was watching the news and got struck by how vicious humans can be. I saw several war tanks, firing missiles and killing people. I do not believe lions or cheetahs manufacture machines to kill. Only humans make sophisticated machines for the sole purpose of killing.
There seems to be an inmate tendency in us to harm each other. It is evident all around us; robbery, fraud, cheating and murder. What can be done to mitigate this?
“They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain:for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord,as the waters cover the sea.”
The Holy Mountain described here is Mount Zion – the “Heavenly Jerusalem.” We learn from this verse that there is neither “hurt” nor destruction in heaven.
Two qualities make this possible. Let’s examine them.
Firstly is holiness.
When we lead a holy life according to the standards of the Word, it helps us to love our neighbor as ourselves and promote love.
Secondly, the knowledge of the Lord.
The more we know about God, the more we allow our character to be shaped and moulded by Him. The Scripture also transforms us, and makes us take on the image of God.
Lead a holy life! Read the Word daily! It will help you live peaceably with your fellow man!
Every Christian is supposed to be a teacher of God’s word.
As Christians, we are supposed to share our faith with others by preaching to them. Jesus said “go ye into all the world and preach the gospel”. The scrIpture also enjoins parents to teach their kids the bible.
In the book of Hebrews, we are also instructed to grow spiritually to the point where we are able to teach others the word. In counseling people, we are supposed to preach the word not our opinions.
What can you do to be able to teach the word with clarity and power?
“My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart:and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.”
You must develop an upright heart.
This means a pure or sincere heart. When we are truthful and sincere, our words will resonate with people both mentally and spiritually. People can tell when you are faking something and when you are authentic.
An upright heart is also a heart that speaks from the viewpoint of experience not just theory. When you have experienced what you are talking about, your words become practical and understandable.
The result will be “clarity”. Your words will be easy to understand. When you don’t understand something yourself it’s difficult to explain it to others.
Develop an upright heart and be a great teacher of the word.
One of the things we must all learn to do is to have a mind to know God for ourselves. When Gideon delivered Israel from their enemies, the people requested that he rules over them. This was his reply.
“And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the Lord shall rule over you”
Gideon asked them to rather let God rule over them. There are many Christians these days who want to have a relationship with God through men of God. They don’t have a deep personal relationship with God himself. Men of God can be a blessing to you but you must never abdicate the responsibility of knowing God for yourself.
There are people who always seek prophets to tell them what to do. There are people who always need direction from a man of God before they can take any step. All these things have their place but they must not supersede your relationship with God. I have also observed that as ministers of God we also stand in danger of replacing God himself. We love it when people depend on us because of the influence and control and financial rewards this can bring.
We as ministers must be like Gideon. We must point people to Jesus as their ruler even if they want us to rule over them. We must be able to overcome the temptation of power, money and pride to give God his rightful place as the king of kings.
Let’s take a decision that we will let God rule over us.
Flattery is insincere praise. One of the dangers of flattery is its ability to “corrupt” or distort the truth.
Good decisions are based on good information, you cannot make accurate decisions with poor information. Flattery can cause you to make poor decisions and choices because of poor information.
Truth can be postponed for a long time but it will eventually catch up with you in a moment.
Sometimes, men can flatter women just to take advantage of them, or women can flatter men to gain a financial advantage. We all love praise but how can we protect ourselves from flattery, how can we protect ourselves from people who want undue favor?
“And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”
In this scripture, we are told those who “do wickedly against the covenant shall be corrupted by flatteries.” When we violate or disobey the word we open ourselves up to flattery. This is because, the word of God is a spiritual mirror that reveals the truth about anything.
When we live by the word we will be spiritually “strong” t
Walk in obedience to the word so you can identify and withstand flattery.
